Every year the onset of autumn is accompanied by an outbreak of colds. Acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and influenza are the most widespread infectious diseases and cause significant damage to human health and the economy of large cities. In addition, the problem of acute respiratory diseases (ARI) in pediatrics is of particular relevance, since in the structure of the overall primary morbidity of children, respiratory infections account for the largest number of cases than all other diseases combined. Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is associated with about 90% of visits to a doctor in the autumn-winter period.

Traditionally, during the period when the epidemic threshold for colds increases, children are the main source of the spread of influenza infection in society, because Most parents continue to take their children to kindergartens and schools during the initial manifestations of a cold, without paying due attention to it. In addition, children living in large cities belong to the so-called “high risk” group in terms of the prevalence of respiratory tract infections. And also, in young children (from 0 to 3 years), a respiratory infection, especially influenza, quite often leads to the development of bacterial complications in the form of pneumonia, bronchitis, acute and otitis media. As a result, the prevention of colds in the autumn-winter period is especially relevant, both for young children and older children attending kindergartens and schools. And therefore, experts recommend paying special attention to the herbal drug Abisil, which has a wide spectrum of action: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and immunomodulatory activities. So why should special attention be paid to the drug Abisil.

1. Abisil - a means of preventing disease

As is known, in relation to viral respiratory infections we are usually talking about nonspecific prevention(5) and symptomatic therapy, since specific etiotropic therapy (elimination of the causes of the disease), as well as specific immunoprophylaxis or vaccination, are currently possible only in relation to influenza viruses, which account for only 5–15% of ARVI(1).

The main active ingredient of the drug Abisil is Siberian fir terpenes. It should be noted that these substances are formed in nature during the life of coniferous plants to protect against harmful environmental influences and have a wide range of pharmacological effects: antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, wound healing, analgesic and affect different types of pathogens. That is why experts recommend the use of the drug Abisil both during the period of prevention and during the period of increasing the threshold of seasonal colds and their complications. It has a general healing effect, increases the tone and protective properties of the body and is therefore necessary in treatment at the early stage of cold symptoms in order to prevent further development of the disease.

How can you use Abisil:

To prevent colds and during periods of increased epidemic threshold, it is necessary to treat the nasal mucosa 1-2 times a week. Course from 1 to 3 months. This procedure will have a stimulating effect on the nervous and immune systems, increase the body’s overall defenses, and reduce the risk of developing further complications (4).

In addition, the drug can be used in the form of inhalations. To do this, you need to dissolve 8-10 drops of the drug in 500 ml of hot water and inhale using an inhaler for 10-15 minutes or inhale the drug directly from the bottle or when applied to a cotton swab or paper napkin (3).

To prevent influenza and acute respiratory infections in organized groups, as well as at home, you can use the method of phytoaeration of air with terpene vapors through special sprayers.

It should be noted that the assessment of the preventive effectiveness of the drug Abisil was studied during an influenza epidemic among children attending preschool institutions. Based on the results of the preventive use of the drug Abisil, data were obtained on a decrease in the number of sick children in the younger group (3-4 years) - by 17.9%, in the middle group (4-5 years) - by 12.5%, in the older group (5- 6) – by 12.2%. In none of the cases of using the drug Abisil were there any general or local adverse reactions. The study allowed us to conclude that the drug Abisil has a pronounced preventive effect and safety when used intranasally, by administering the drug through the nasal mucosa in preschool children (2).

2. Abisil - a medicine for symptomatic therapy

If infection with a virus and the disease does occur, then, as a rule, attempts to stop all manifestations of the disease with appropriate symptomatic remedies are usually fraught with polypharmacy (prescribing several medications at the same time): decongestants, to relieve swelling and congestion of the nasal mucosa; antihistamines (antiallergic); local antiseptics (whose effectiveness against viral infections is generally very controversial); antipyretic and anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as immunomodulatory drugs, is obviously an excessive tactic for a banal ARI. In addition, the need to use 4-6 different drugs at the same time significantly reduces the degree of patient compliance with therapy in terms of taking different drugs prescribed by the doctor and other recommendations and measures for changing lifestyle during the treatment period.

In addition, most traditional regimens for the prevention and treatment of ARVI and influenza also involve the use of expensive drugs of chemical origin, which are often unsafe for the body. Such drugs increase the load on all human organs and systems, already weakened by infection and high temperature, exacerbating the critical condition of the human body. Therefore, specialists, offering patients means for the prevention and treatment of colds, acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, are paying increasing attention to herbal medicines.

How to use Abisil at the first signs of a cold as a symptomatic treatment.

Before and during the epidemic rise of colds, if you have the first signs of illness in the form of rhinitis, in order to prevent further complications of the disease, experts recommend treating the nasal mucosa with Abisil 2-3 times a day or instilling the drug 1 drop into each nostril 1 -2 times a day. The drug strengthens the body's resistance to acute respiratory diseases, improves immunity and helps relieve symptoms, returning you to an active life in a short time.

This issue is especially relevant in the treatment of nasal symptoms of acute respiratory viral infection (acute rhinosinusitis), taking into account the fact that the average therapeutic dose of some synthetic vasoconstrictor drugs is close to toxic, and therefore there is a high probability of overdose and systemic toxic effects from other organs. In addition, important advantages of herbal medicines are the relatively low frequency of adverse reactions, including allergic ones, as well as the complexity of effects aimed at eliminating the pathological process (6).

3. Abisil in the treatment of complications of ARVI

Traditionally, due to the widespread prevalence of ARVI, high morbidity and relatively rare adverse outcomes, we often carry out self-diagnosis and self-medication, seeking medical help only if complications of the disease develop. To prevent the development of complications, Abisil must be used at an early stage of the disease, when the first symptoms appear. But if you were unable to avoid complications, then the timely use of Abisil in this case will significantly ease the course of the disease itself, and will return you to “function” in a significantly short time, because it is indicated for the treatment of complications of colds in the form of infectious diseases of the nasopharynx and respiratory tract, as well as for purulent-inflammatory diseases of the ear: rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, eustachitis, nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and other complicated forms of colds and flu. How to use Abisil in the treatment of complications that have arisen can be found in the “Areas of Application” section.

We should not forget that the cause of complications is often not only viruses, but also bacteria, and a reliable differential diagnosis of viral and bacterial inflammation is not always quickly feasible. This problem becomes especially urgent when the question arises about the need to prescribe antibiotics. The irrational use of antibiotics, their not always controlled dispensing in pharmacies, coupled with self-medication, lead to an increase in the number of resistant strains, and primarily we are talking about those microorganisms that are most often the causative agents of acute respiratory infections. At the same time, the creation of fundamentally new classes of antibiotics, despite the colossal efforts of the pharmaceutical industry, is delayed. For this reason, in recent years, the interest of the world medical community has been focused on the search for alternative antimicrobial substances, including among well-known herbal remedies. It is also important that the development of resistance of pathogens to plant antibacterial components is observed less frequently than to “classical” antibiotics.

4. Multidirectional action of terpenes

Abisil is a medicinal product whose main active ingredient is Siberian fir terpenes. Terpenoid compounds can have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, antimicrobial, antiviral, antihistamine, immunomodulatory, antitumor, antispasmodic, and sedative effects. This list of biological properties of terpenoids important for humans is constantly expanding.

Compounds of the terpenoid group obtained from coniferous trees, due to their unique pharmacological properties, are increasingly used in the treatment of various pathological conditions. Analysis of scientific data and our own research characterizes plant terpenoids, and especially those obtained from coniferous trees, as a promising class in terms of natural compounds that are effective in the complex therapy and prevention of acute respiratory diseases. The relatively low toxicity of plant-derived terpenoids and the versatility of their pharmacological effects are important advantages of these compounds (6).

The multidirectional effects of Abisil allow it to be used both as a means of prevention, monotherapy (for processes of mild and moderate severity), and as part of complex therapy of acute respiratory diseases.

5. Safety and ease of use

Abisil is a drug that can be purchased in pharmacies without a prescription. It can be used at any age. In therapeutic doses, the drug is non-toxic and has no side effects. No complications from the use of Abisil were registered; in all cases it was well tolerated.

It is important to remember that preventive measures will allow you to avoid the development of colds and their complications. But if you were unable to avoid colds during the cold season, then make sure that Abisil is in your family “home medicine cabinet” in order to be able to prevent the development of colds at an early stage. It will help both children and parents and, with timely treatment, will prevent further complications of cold infections.
