Trimedat is prescribed for pathologies of the digestive organs, such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, gastroesophageal reflux and other pathologies. The medication helps regulate the motility of the intestinal wall, improve the state of the microbiota, and relieve pain. The medicine is successfully used in both pediatric and adult practice.
Trimedat 200 mg for adults
pharmachologic effect
Myotropic antispasmodic that regulates the motility of the digestive system. The active substance affects the enkephalinergic system of the intestine and regulates peristalsis. Trimebutine has an antispasmodic effect in hyperkinesis of smooth muscle tissue of the digestive tract, and in hypokinetic conditions it stimulates intestinal function.
The drug enhances peristalsis and promotes gastric emptying, reduces pressure on the esophageal sphincter, acts throughout the intestine, enhances the response of the smooth muscle tissue of the large intestine to various food irritants.
For diseases of the digestive tract associated with impaired motility, trimebutine helps restore the physiological activity of the intestine.
Trimedat
Trimedat (active ingredient trimebutine) is a domestic pharmaceutical drug whose main pharmacological function is the regulation of gastrointestinal motility (GIT). It is used for various functional diseases of the digestive system, dyspeptic disorders, as well as for the recently widespread irritable bowel syndrome (its universal markers are abdominal pain and colic, intestinal spasms, increased gas formation, diarrhea or constipation). Trimedat acts throughout the digestive tract, including the bile ducts along with the gallbladder. In clinical practice, there are often cases of patients having diverse motor disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, with a predominance of various pathogenetic components. To identify a specific type of disorder, complex and not always accessible instrumental studies are required for a wide range of patients, such as: endoscopic manometry of the sphincter of Oddi, study of the motor function of the digestive tract with radioactive gold, etc. The lion's share of motor dysfunctions have a complex pathogenesis, so a gastroenterologist simply must have drugs in his arsenal that can have a beneficial effect on motor skills, regardless of what type of disorder occurs in this particular case. Trimedat is one such medicine. It eliminates both hypomotor and spastic dyskinesia of the intestines and biliary tract. Such universalism of trimedat makes it possible to influence the pathological process at its very initial stage and reduce the volume of necessary diagnostic interventions (as well as, of course, their cost).
The substance trimebutine was synthesized in France in 1969 and for many years was known under the trade name debridate.
In 2008, the Russian pharmaceutical company entered the market with its new brainchild - the drug trimedat, which was created on the basis of trimebutine. Trimedat interacts with peripheral opiate receptors, “scattered” throughout the gastrointestinal tract. They are located mainly in the nerve plexuses of the intestine. Among the opiate receptors, there are 3 subtypes: mu-, delta- and kappa. The first two are responsible for conducting excitation, and the last one is responsible for inhibition. Trimedat does not have an affinity for any one subtype of receptor, interacting with all of them at once. Being normokinetic, it has a dual regulatory effect. By binding to kappa receptors, trimedate suppresses motor activity, and by performing the same action in relation to mu and delta receptors, it stimulates it. Thus, trimedate, depending on the circumstances (read: the initial state of the motor function of the digestive tract), can act both as an antispasmodic and as a prokinetic. Trimedat affects the humoral regulation of the digestive organs, increasing the level of motilin (this hormone is one of the main regulators of gastrointestinal motility), reducing the level of gastrin, insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide, vasoactive intestinal peptide. As a result, the following clinically significant effects are modulated: gastric evacuation accelerates, motor function of the colon and visceral sensitivity change. The effectiveness of trimedat has been proven in a number of randomized studies. For example, in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, it was about 83%, which allows us to consider this drug as a universal regulator of the motor function of the gastrointestinal tract.
Indications for use of Trimedat
What Trimedat tablets are used for:
- motility disorder in functional gastrointestinal pathology;
- gastroesophageal reflux disease;
- dyspeptic disorders due to gastroduodenal pathology (vomiting, epigastric pain, nausea, digestive disorders);
- paralytic intestinal obstruction after surgery;
- irritable bowel syndrome , accompanied by pain, stool disorders, spasms, colic;
- preparation for examination of the digestive tract (endoscopic manipulations, x-ray examination).
The use of the drug in pediatric practice makes it possible to successfully relieve dyspeptic disorders in gastrointestinal motility disorders.
Contraindications and adverse reactions
You should not start taking the medicine if you are allergic to the active and auxiliary substances.
Other contraindications include:
- problems with swallowing;
- children under 3 years old;
- violation of the maxillofacial apparatus.
In these conditions, tablets can only be taken in crushed form.
In most cases, the drug is well tolerated by the human body, but in some cases, adverse reactions may occur, which are periodic in nature (i.e., appear in isolated cases):
- disruption of the menstrual cycle and other disorders (prolonged bleeding, increase or decrease in cycle);
- hearing problems;
- feeling of anxiety and restlessness;

Instructions for Trimedat (Method and dosage)
How to take: orally, without chewing and with water. Instructions for use of Trimedat recommend a standard treatment regimen: 100-200 mg three times a day. The maximum dose is 600 mg per day.
In order to prevent relapse of irritable bowel syndrome, the drug is prescribed at 300 mg per day. The medicine can be taken for 4 months.
Instructions for the use of tablets in pediatric practice
25 mg three times a day for children 3-5 years old. Children 5-12 years old are prescribed 50 mg three times a day. How to take Trimedat: before or after meals? Taking medication is not associated with food intake.
How to use
You can take pills only after consulting with a specialist and prescribing the drug. This is necessary in order to exclude the presence of certain pathologies that can cause adverse reactions. This is especially true for long-term treatment, since a single dose cannot lead to serious consequences.
Adults and children over 12 years of age are allowed to take 1-2 tablets three times a day.
A child aged 5-12 years can be given half a tablet three times a day.
Children under 5 years of age can be given a quarter of a tablet 3 times a day.
The permissible dose per day that does not cause negative reactions is 600 mg.
The drug is also used when there are no obvious symptoms of irritated intestines. The product significantly improves the condition and prevents the recurrence of the disease. In this case, the daily dose should not exceed 300 mg. The duration of the treatment course is 90 days.
The effectiveness of the drug is not affected by the presence of food in the stomach. Therefore, you can take the tablet both before and after meals. It is best to take the tablet with regular drinking water.
On a note! The medicine should not be taken with alcohol. Alcohol stops metabolic processes in the liver, as a result of which the effect of taking Trimedat will be equal to zero.
Use by children
Before giving medicine to a child, you should pay attention to the country of manufacture. Korean-made trimedate can be given to children over 12 years of age. The Russian drug can be given to a child from 3 years of age.
The component trimebutine is harmless to infants. But at this age, the baby will not physically be able to take the pill. As a result, the contraindication is not age, but the form of release of the drug. Pediatricians advise parents to crush the tablet and give it to the child in the form of a suspension. The permissible dose and amount of liquid for dilution is determined by the doctor, taking into account the weight and age of the baby.
Reception during pregnancy and lactation
Officially, the drug is prohibited for use by pregnant women, since no medical research has been conducted on this matter. Therefore, there is no reliable information regarding the effect of the drug on the body of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
However, experiments were conducted on animals, the results of which indicate no harm to the fetus.
On a note! Before 12 weeks of pregnancy, you should not use the medicine, like other medications. After all, it is in the 1st trimester that the baby’s organs are formed. Therefore, you should refuse any external intervention so as not to harm the fetus.
Doctors have also not established the likelihood of the active component getting into breast milk. If it is necessary to take Trimedat, it is worth transferring the baby to artificial feeding.
