Indications for use

The cream and therapeutic system are used as a superficial anesthetic for injections, vascular catheterization , punctures and surgical interventions.

In addition, the cream is used on the lower extremities for superficial anesthesia for trophic ulcers , as well as before painful manipulations of the genital mucosa (only in adults).

In addition, it is often used in beauty salons in the following cases:

  • for correction of nasolabial folds, elimination of wrinkles, etc.;
  • before mesotherapy ;
  • before the administration of drugs such as Botox , Restylane , etc.;

How does the external remedy work?

Emla acts as a pain reliever (local anesthetic), reducing the sensitivity of the treated area. The ingredients (lidocaine and prilocaine) prevent the transmission of pain signals from nerve endings to the brain, causing minor discomfort in the patient. In case of premature ejaculation, EMLA provokes numbness of the penis and increases the delay time of intravaginal ejaculation by up to 5-6 times.

The drug is used to numb an area of skin before injections, to reduce sensitivity before minor operations, for example, when removing warts.

Emla is often prescribed to treat premature ejaculation. The drug is not currently licensed for use in the treatment of PE and should only be considered after other forms of treatment have been exhausted. However, studies have shown that using the cream 20-30 minutes before sexual intercourse leads to an increase in the latent time of intravaginal ejaculation.

Contraindications

The drug in both forms of release is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • hypersensitivity of the body;
  • infants born before 37 weeks' gestation

The cream is also not used for newborns weighing up to 3 kg. It is not advisable to apply the therapeutic system to open wounds.

The cream should be used with caution in cases of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase , atopic dermatitis , hereditary or idiopathic methemoglobinemia .

The therapeutic system is used with caution around the eyes (irritation is possible), with atopic dermatitis , before BCG , and also in case of deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase .

Instructions for use of Emla (Method and dosage)

Instructions for use of Emla cream and therapeutic system indicate that they are used externally. The cream can be applied to the skin or mucous membrane depending on the need.

For injections and minor surgical procedures, usually use about 1.5-2 g of the product per 10 cm2 of skin, and then apply an occlusive dressing for 1-5 hours.

If the procedures are carried out over large areas, apply 1.5-2 g/cm2 of cream and apply an occlusive dressing for 2-5 hours.

As a superficial anesthetic in the case of trophic ulcers on the lower extremities, the cream is applied in a dosage of approximately 1-2 g/cm2 in a fairly thick layer. You can use no more than 10 g of product per 1 procedure. An occlusive dressing is applied for half an hour. If penetration of the drug into tissue is difficult, this time can be increased to 1 hour. Mechanical cleaning begins no later than 10 minutes after removing the product. In 1-2 months the cream is used up to 15 times.

The instructions for use of Emla also provide for various schemes of use during superficial anesthesia of the genital mucosa.

As a pain reliever before local anesthetic , 1-2 g per 10 cm2 of skin is prescribed. The product is applied to the skin in a fairly thick layer. Application time for women is 60 minutes, for men – 15 minutes.

When removing condylomas and for anesthesia before injections of local anesthetics, about 5-10 g of cream is applied to the mucous membrane. The product is kept for 5–10 minutes. The procedure is performed immediately after removing the cream.

For children, the cream can be prescribed as an anesthetic for injections and other superficial surgical procedures in a dosage of no more than 1 g per 10 cm2. The product is applied in a thick layer, then an occlusive dressing .

If the patient has atopic dermatitis , the application should be reduced to 15-30 minutes.

In beauty salons, Emla is especially often used for hair removal of the bikini and other areas. To do this, apply the product in a thick layer in the right places and wait about 30-60 minutes before starting the procedure. If the epilation cream is used over a fairly large area, several tubes may be needed at once.

Women generally praise this remedy very much, especially since no other ointment or cream gives a similar effect.

Description of the drug

Emla Cream is a topical local anesthetic approved for use to relieve discomfort associated with injections and minor surgical procedures by numbing the desired area. It is commonly used to numb the skin before procedures such as tattoo removal.

“Off-label” use of a treatment means that a drug is being used for a treatment other than the one for which it was originally licensed. This may occur from time to time while clinical data on the effectiveness of the therapy is collected. In the case of Emla, studies have been conducted to highlight the effectiveness of helping people suffering from premature ejaculation.

Reviews about Emla

On the Internet you can find a variety of reviews about Emla. Most of them are positive, but it can be difficult to distinguish the opinions of real patients from ordered advertising. The main criterion is that reviews of Emla cream from real people contain a detailed description of the experience of use. As a rule, girls who have used this product for hair removal share their opinions. Many of them write that it really helped. But there are also those who buy it at the pharmacy, and then complain in reviews about the Emla painkiller cream, because the drug did not work at all.

To summarize the above, we can say that the effectiveness of the product in each specific case can only be verified in practice. In addition, there is an opinion that a cream or ointment with such an effect can only anesthetize the surface of the skin, and the hairs are located deeper, so the discomfort still remains. So some cosmetologists do not recommend using Emla for pain relief during hair removal and prefer to give injections .

Instructions for use

Start by applying a small pea-sized amount to the head of the penis 20-30 minutes before sexual intercourse. Care should be taken with the amount used as it is a local anesthetic. If you are in doubt about how much to use, please contact your GP or our clinical team to find out what is appropriate.

CAUTION: Emla is an oil-in-water emulsion. There is a small risk that the drug may weaken condoms. Be sure to remove all cream before continuing sexual intercourse.

Emla price, where to buy

Emla anesthetic cream is not as affordable as its analogues, but is still quite popular. And all because it is easy to use. There is no ointment or cream with a similar effect on sale at a lower price. But the cost of gels or injection solutions is much lower.

The average price of Emla is 1,700 rubles per tube. Moreover, the mass of the product can be different, regardless of the cost. So, before asking how much this drug costs at the pharmacy, you need to clarify which tube you are interested in. It can be designed for 5 or 30 g of the drug.

However, buying cream in Moscow and other Russian cities is not so easy. This product is quite rarely available in pharmacies, but is found in cosmetology centers.

The average price of Emla cream in Ukraine is about 350 hryvnia.
