Description of the product Norgalax

Norgalax microenema is a drug that can be purchased without a prescription. The product is recommended for quick bowel movements. After rectal administration of the gel using a convenient microenema, bowel cleansing will occur within 10-30 minutes.

The drug contains the following components:

  • active substance – docusate sodium;
  • auxiliary components – purified water, glycerin, sodium carmellose.

The drug Norgalax is produced by a French pharmaceutical company. The rectal gel is packaged in special cannula tubes, which are made of soft plastic. The container is equipped with a long cap, which makes it possible to conveniently insert a microenema into the rectum.

The package contains 6 containers, each of which has a volume of 10 g. Each microenema contains 120 mg of the active substance.

Price

A laxative based on sodium docusate is available to all categories of buyers. The cost of rectal gel remains virtually unchanged in different regions.

Average price in Russia

Rules for storing the drug Norgalax

The shelf life of the drug is 3 years, but certain rules must be followed.

Basic requirements to maintain the effectiveness of the product:

  • do not keep in the refrigerator;
  • the temperature in the place where this medicine is stored should not be higher than 25°C.

If there are children in the house, then it is necessary to take care of their safety. If Norgalax is swallowed, the child will develop symptoms of food poisoning.

Analogs

The pharmacy chain offers micro-enemas of similar action with good laxative properties. Before use, consultation with a therapist, proctologist or gastroenterologist is also required.

Effective drugs:

Normacol . A 60 ml bottle is approved for use from three years of age, 130 ml – from 15 years of age. The pharmacological effect begins no later than half an hour. The indications are the same as for the drug Norgalax.

Microlax . Active ingredients : sodium citrate (displaces water molecules), sorbitol (laxative effect). Micro-enema Microlax is approved for the treatment of constipation in patients of any age, even newborns. The laxative effect was noted no later than a third of an hour after the procedure.

Norgalax for pregnant women

Constipation is a problem that almost all pregnant women face; this occurs both in the early stages and in the last period of pregnancy.

A convenient and simple means of microenemas can be dangerous while waiting for the baby to be born. Microclysters can cause uterine contractions and miscarriage in early pregnancy. In later stages, these procedures can provoke premature birth.

It is unacceptable to use microenemas for the following reasons:

  • pain in the abdomen;
  • risk of miscarriage;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • dizziness;
  • toxicosis;
  • the uterus is toned;
  • increased blood pressure;
  • feeling of heaviness in the stomach;
  • other chronic diseases.

We recommend watching a video about an enema before childbirth:

Side effects

Long-term use of micro-enemas sometimes causes discomfort and provokes negative manifestations:

  • rectal pain;

  • itching, burning in the anus;
  • bowel movements become more frequent;
  • glycerin causes digestive disorders;
  • some patients experience allergic reactions (urticaria);
  • flatulence;
  • Oral administration of rectal gel has a negative effect on the stomach and liver.

Take note:

  • Norgalax is not recommended for frequent use;
  • under the influence of docusate sodium, the composition of the intestinal microflora is disrupted and peristalsis worsens;
  • the recovery period is long, it is quite difficult to normalize the number of beneficial bacteria;
  • if after one or two procedures the stool does not return to normal, stop administering micro-enemas;
  • Avoid choosing a new laxative on your own: consult a doctor to change the drug.

Contraindications

It is prohibited to use an effective laxative for certain problems in the body. Under the influence of sodium docusate, water actively accumulates and the volume of hardened feces increases. For some intestinal diseases, the use of micro-enemas can be life-threatening.

Restrictions on use:

  • haemorrhoids;
  • anal fissures;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • bleeding in the anal area;
  • ulcerative colitis;
  • excessive sensitivity to the components of the laxative.

The drug is approved for use in patients over 15 years of age. Other types of micro-enemas are recommended for children, for example, Microlax, Normacol.

During pregnancy

When carrying a child, the hormone progesterone slows down intestinal motility. Relaxed muscles do not perform their functions fully. Consequences: problems with bowel movements, intestinal atony.

During pregnancy, the Norgalax micro-enema can be used only as directed by a doctor . The expected result should be higher than the possible risks to the fetus.

Note! A single dose of rectal gel with a laxative effect is allowed before childbirth. Proper execution of the procedure promotes rapid emptying. After cleansing the intestines, the fear of defecation disappears during the passage of the child through the birth canal at the final stage of the process.

Side effects

Side effects when using Norgalax:

  • bleeding from the anus;
  • burning sensation in the anus;
  • diarrhea;
  • allergic reaction: itching, redness of the skin.

These symptoms may appear if the drug is used for a long time. If side effects occur, you should stop using the product and consult your doctor.

How quickly does Norgalax work?

To eliminate constipation, it is necessary to introduce the contents of a microenema into the rectum, calculating that the process of defecation will occur in 5-20 minutes.

One of the purposes of Norgalax is to prepare the patient for medical examinations of the rectum. The microenema has a convenient form and is ready for use, so the patient can easily carry out the necessary procedure independently.

At the same time, the main study is faster and does not require additional medical personnel. In this case, in order to completely empty the intestines, the patient needs to be given a Norgalax microenema no more than 30 minutes before the start of the main study.

How to properly administer a microenema

To treat constipation, use 1 disposable microenema per day.

The procedure for correctly administering a microenema:

  1. Remove the protective cap from the tip.
  2. Squeeze out a drop of gel, lubricate the tip, and insert into the rectum.
  3. Squeeze the container so that nothing remains in the bottle.
  4. Continuing to press on the bottle, remove the microenema.

It is possible that immediately after introducing the drug into the rectum, you will feel the desire to go to the toilet. It is recommended to wait at least 10 minutes, this way the effectiveness of the product will be higher.

It must be remembered that the drug is intended for rectal administration only. If the medicine enters the body through the mouth, it can cause indigestion and diarrhea. In this case, it is necessary to prevent toxic poisoning by taking sorbents.

Similar microenemas containing other drugs should be administered in the same way.

Contraindications for use

Before you start using Norgalax microenema, you should carefully read the list of contraindications.

You should stop using the drug if you have the following reasons:

  • Crohn's disease;
  • any bleeding from the anus;
  • if you are allergic to components;
  • haemorrhoids;
  • anal fissures.

If you use the product frequently and for a long time, side effects will appear in the digestive and hepatobiliary systems. An overdose may cause excessive bowel movements.

Norgalax is not recommended for frequent use. If after the procedure the stool does not return to normal, then you need to abandon these microenemas and consult a specialist.
