Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of the drug is a stimulator of α1 and 2-adrenergic receptors of the vessels of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. As a result of its action, the vessels narrow, inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane decreases. Nasal discharge is significantly reduced and nasal breathing becomes easier.

The additional introduction of eucalyptus oil has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. This helps reduce swelling of the mucous membrane.

The drug is indicated for rhinitis of various etiologies and diseases of the paranasal sinuses. Its effect lasts about 10 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

Rhinorus does not have a systemic effect when applied topically, since the concentration in the blood plasma is very low.

Reviews about Rinorus

Xylometazoline, the active ingredient in Rhinorus drops, has a longer lasting effect (8-10 hours) than drugs from the phenylephrine .

Positive reviews about Rhinorus boil down to the fact that the long-lasting vasoconstrictor effect allows the drops to be used only 2 times a day. For some patients, this frequency of use is sufficient. Use at night ensures the restoration of patency of the nasal passages during the night and a restful sleep. Users note that the effect of the drug does not appear immediately, but after 10 minutes.

The risk of mucosal atrophy is reduced due to the presence of eucalyptus oil , which, in addition, additionally has a healing effect. Drops, when instilled, enter the throat, and this causes discomfort for many. In addition, the drops are difficult to dose, so side effects may occur. It is safer, and for many more convenient, to use a dosed spray.

Some users report adverse reactions: burning in the nose, increased blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia . To avoid adverse events, it is recommended to strictly adhere to the dosage regimen of the drug.
