Pharmacological properties:

LINKAS BALM is a combination drug used for colds. The pharmacological effect of the drug is determined by the properties of its components. Menthol, when applied to the skin, causes irritation of nerve endings, accompanied by a feeling of cold, while providing a local anesthetic effect. It also has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. When inhaled, the expectorant and mucolytic effects are retained. Eucalyptus oil contains 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), pinene, myrtenol. Has bactericidal, antiviral and fungicidal effects. When applied to the skin, it has a local irritant and analgesic effect. Thanks to its mild local anesthetic effect, it eliminates skin itching. When used inhalation, it causes expectorant, mucolytic and antihypoxic effects. Camphor has an antiseptic, local irritant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. By stimulating the sensitive nerve endings of the skin, it reflexively improves the trophism of organs and tissues. Turpentine oil contains the terpene alpha-pinene. It has a local irritating, distracting and antiseptic effect. When used inhalation, it reflexively stimulates cough, providing expectorant and mucolytic effects. Clove oil contains eugenol, which has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties.

Indications for use:

acute respiratory diseases, accompanied by cough, rhinitis and muscle pain - accumulation of difficult to separate sputum in the chest (with bronchitis, tracheitis, pneumonia).

Mode of application:

For coughs associated with colds, the ointment is applied to the skin of the chest and neck. For a runny nose or nasal congestion, apply the ointment to the skin of the wings of the nose. For pain in the muscles and back, apply ointment to the painful areas. To achieve optimal effect, apply a warm bandage on top. For severe colds, the drug is used in the form of inhalation: dissolve 1 teaspoon of balm in hot water and deeply inhale the vapors through an inhaler. Do not reheat the mixture. Apply 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5 – 7 days.

Linkas Balm

Linkas Balm is a locally irritating combined herbal medicine. It is used as a symptomatic (impacts on the symptoms, not the cause of the disease) treatment of acute respiratory infections, accompanied by a non-productive cough with thick, poorly discharged sputum, copious nasal discharge, difficult nasal breathing, as well as to alleviate muscle pain caused by coughing. Dosage form – ointment. The effect of the drug is determined by the properties of its individual components. Levomenthol acts on afferent nerve endings, causing a series of reflex reactions. Irritates skin receptors, activates the reproduction and release of biologically active endogenous substances that regulate the permeability of vascular walls, the feeling of pain, thereby realizing a distracting, analgesic and antipruritic effect. Exhibits a disinfecting effect by affecting bacterial cells. The irritating effect of levomenthol distracts from pain and is manifested by a feeling of cold, tingling and a slight burning sensation at the site of application. The reflex action of levomenthol improves tissue trophism. Eucalyptus oil exhibits a disinfecting and anti-inflammatory effect. Effective for infectious and inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract. Camphor has a local irritating, disinfecting effect, stimulates the respiratory and vasomotor centers. Has peripheral vasoconstrictor activity. Stimulates expectoration. When applied topically, it exhibits a distracting effect. Turpentine oil has an analgesic, local irritant, disinfectant and distracting effect. Clove oil exhibits a disinfecting effect, complements and potentiates the effect of other components of the drug. Linkas Balm is used as an adjuvant in the complex treatment of colds. The medicine is intended exclusively for local use. For acute respiratory infections, a small amount of the drug is applied to the skin in the chest area and rubbed over the surface with soft, repeated movements.

Frequency of application – 3-4 times a day. The medication course is on average one week. For muscle pain resulting from a strong cough, the ointment is applied to the area where the pain is most acute and rubbed over the surface with gentle movements. The frequency of use and duration of the medication course are the same: 3-4 times a day and 1 week. To enhance the effect of the drug, it is allowed to cover the application area with a warm bandage. Possible undesirable side reactions associated with the use of Linkas Balm, in most cases, are the result of hypersensitivity to the drug and are manifested by: a feeling of painful tickling skin irritation, causing the need to scratch the irritated area, hyperemia of the skin. Linkas Balm has a favorable safety profile and is well tolerated. The drug is not prescribed in case of individual intolerance to any active or auxiliary component, a tendency to bronchospasm, the presence of mechanical damage to the skin, untreated skin disease at the site of application of the drug, as well as during pregnancy and lactation. The drug is not used in pediatric practice due to insufficient clinical data on its effectiveness and safety in patients of this age category. When using the drug, it is important to be careful not to allow the ointment to come into contact with the eyes, the inner lining of the mouth and nasal passages, as well as areas of the skin with mechanical damage.
