Before using the drug Bifiform, you should read the instructions for use. The main feature of this medicine is that it contains microorganisms characteristic of the human intestine, such as enterococci and bifidobacteria. These microbes not only help digest food, but also help in the production of folic acid and vitamin E.
Compound
The active components of Bifiform are lactic acid bacteria that affect the activity of the gastrointestinal tract:
- Bifidobacterium longum
- Enterococcus faecium
The manufacturer uses the following as excipients:
- lactulose
- gum
- magnesium stearate
- lactic acid starter
- anhydrous dextrose
Indications for use of Bifiform
The drug capsules can be taken by adults and children over two years of age. The medicine is recommended for the treatment of diseases of the digestive system and as preventive measures. Among the main indications for use are:
- symptoms of intestinal dysbiosis;
- completing a course of antibacterial therapy;
- digestive system disease;
- chronic and acute form of digestive tract disorder;
- diarrhea caused by infection or diarrhea due to stress.
The drug has also proven its effectiveness in the treatment of chronic constipation and elimination of enzymatic deficiency. In addition, the medicine helps strengthen the immune system and, as a result, effectively fights colds.
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
The action of the pharmaceutical drug is explained by the components of the drug, which are able to maintain and normalize the physiological balance of the intestinal flora. The active components of the drug colonize the small and large intestines. By producing lactic and acetic acids, active bacteria suppress the development and reproduction of pathogenic microorganisms.
Bifiform promotes:
- improving the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract
- increase in nonspecific resistance of the body
- stabilization of intestinal microbiocenosis
Drug groups
Bifiform. Release form - capsules
Bifiform is available in various forms. By and large, this is due to the probiotics contained in the drug. Thus, the following forms of medicine exist on the pharmaceutical market:
- Capsules. They are based on enterococci and bifidobacteria, the usual habitat of which is the intestines. In addition, the capsules contain nutrients that accelerate the proliferation of beneficial bacteria in the internal environment of the intestines. The main characteristic is acid resistance. Age limits are from two years and above.
- Powder "Baby". It is a biological food additive. Sold in powder form with different flavorings. Consists of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. In addition, the composition contains a concentration of B vitamins. Indications for use: dysbacteriosis in children from one to two years old.
- Chewable tablets "Baby". Developed on the basis of lactobacilli, bifidobacteria and B vitamins. Serve as a prophylactic against dysbacteriosis for children aged three years and older.
- Baby drops. Mostly they consist of streptococci and bifidobacteria. In small concentrations there are also substances that promote their engraftment in the intestinal microflora. Prescribed for newborns as a prophylaxis against dysbacteriosis.
Instructions for use Bifiform
The annotation describes in detail how to take the drug. Children over 2 years of age and adult patients are recommended to take 2-3 capsules per day. In case of urgent need, the dosage can be increased to 4 capsules.
In the first days of therapy, the patient may feel the antidiarrheal effect of the drug. For acute diarrhea, the treatment course should last from 2 to 3 days.
In some cases, the doctor may prescribe medication for 3 weeks. The medicine can also be taken in combination with other medications (suppositories with Indomethacin).
Bifiform can be taken both before and after meals.
Many patients turn to doctors asking whether it is possible to combine Bifiform with antibiotics. Experts have one answer - it is better to avoid such a combination, because bifidobacteria will be utilized. It is better to start using Bifiform after antibiotic therapy.
The smartest thing to do would be to ask your doctor how much and in what quantity you should take Bifiform.
Bifiform
Bifiform (INN Bifidobacterium longum + Enterococcus faecium) is a medical immunobiological drug that regulates the balance of intestinal microflora (eubiotic). The strains of probiotically beneficial bacteria included in the drug, Bifidobacterium longum and Enterococcus faecium, are representatives of the normal microflora inhabiting the human digestive tract. Their cultivation is carried out in the laboratories of the Danish company Christian Hansen. The action of Bifiform is aimed at normalizing the quantitative and qualitative composition of the intestinal microflora. The drug acts both directly (its components exhibit pronounced antagonism towards pathogenic and facultatively pathogenic bacteria) and indirectly, activating the formation of immunoglobulin A and suppressing the synthesis of its own interferon (the so-called local intestinal link of the immune system). Bifidobacterium longum grows quickly and is well adapted to life in the human intestine. Enterococcus faecium is an apathogenic enterococcus, which is a representative of the normal microflora of the small intestine, but also has a positive effect on the functions of the large intestine, especially with increased gas formation and fermentative dyspepsia. Bifiform can also be used in pediatric practice, starting from the age of two. The drug is indicated for diarrhea of various origins, dysbiosis, as an adjuvant in the treatment of intestinal infections in the acute stage, Helicobacter pylori infection, chronic gastrointestinal diseases, to normalize the intestinal microflora and strengthen the immune status in patients of childhood and adulthood.
A special feature of the dosage form of the drug is the two-layer protective enteric capsule shell, thanks to which the entire complex of active ingredients - a set of probiotic bacteria - reaches the site of the main therapeutic effect, i.e. into the intestines. For the growth and reproduction of probiotics, a special nutrient medium is included in the preparation. Bifiform can be taken by persons with lactose intolerance, because the drug does not contain this disaccharide. Bifiform can be taken together with antibiotics. For diarrhea in the acute phase, the recommended dose to normalize stool is 1 capsule four times a day. Then the drug is taken in a maintenance dose of 12-3 capsules daily until the signs of the disease completely disappear. To improve the quantitative and qualitative composition of the intestinal microflora and strengthen the immune status, a dose of 2-3 capsules daily for 10-21 days is indicated. For helicobacteriosis, 2 capsules are prescribed twice a day for 14 days. In pediatric practice, a dose of 1 capsule 2-3 times a day is used. Capsules may be opened and the contents mixed with liquid to facilitate swallowing. No cases of drug overdose have been reported to date; however, exceeding the maximum daily dose is not recommended.

People are accustomed to believing that a woman should not take medications during pregnancy. But many do not know that there are also useful drugs that will help a woman carrying a child regulate metabolism and normalize intestinal microflora. These drugs include Bifiform.
The instructions indicate that taking the drug during pregnancy is not prohibited. It belongs to probiotics, therefore, it normalizes intestinal flora well. Many doctors often prescribe Bifiform to pregnant women. The use of the medication does not have a negative effect on the intrauterine fetus.
The pharmaceutical product has a good therapeutic effect and does not harm the baby.
Bifiform for newborns
Bifiform Baby - for young children
Bifiform for children is a combination of probiotics beneficial to the body in the form of a suspension. You can take the drug from the first days of birth. This may be due to its ability to restore the balance of intestinal microflora even in the youngest patients. Indications for prescribing medication for newborns may be:
- dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract;
- suffering from a cold;
- undergoing a course of treatment with antibiotics or other medications;
- therapy of dysbiosis and intestinal disorders such as bloating and discomfort.
The absence of age restrictions for use is due to the composition of the children's medicine. So, in addition to the main bifidobacteria, it contains silicon dioxide, maltodextrin and triglycerides. Children take the biological supplement with food once a day. The treatment period is at least 20 days.

Difference between Bifiform and Bifiform Complex
The drug discussed in the article is classified as a medicinal product, but Bifiform Complex is registered in Russia as a dietary supplement.
The difference between the products is noticeable immediately after reading the composition. Bifiform Complex has three active substances, 3 strains of bacteria.
The medicine goes on sale in the form of capsules, the shell of which prevents bacteria from dying once they enter the stomach. The dietary supplement is produced in tablet form. Once the tablets enter the body, they quickly dissolve, and the bacteria will die in the aggressive environment of the stomach. Therefore, we can say that Bifiform Complex is weakly effective.
The similar names of both drugs often lead people to choose the wrong remedy.
Dosage and forms of administration
Only a doctor can prescribe Bifiform. You need to take the medicine about three times a day. The capsule must not be chewed. Its intake should coincide with the consumption of food. The drug is swallowed whole about three times a day. The dosage for adults and children over two years of age is almost the same, with rare exceptions.
For newborns and children under one year of age, Bifiform is recommended in liquid form as a dietary supplement. The daily dose of medicine for children from one to two years is six sachets of powder. Patients aged two to three years are advised to take chewable tablets “Baby” in two doses three times a day.
As studies have shown, the drug does not cause any side effects and does not affect the emotional state of the patient.
Pharmacology and pharmacodynamics
As already mentioned, the drug is intended to stabilize the intestinal flora. The constituent components help maintain normal intestinal microflora. Beneficial bacteria themselves are present in the body, but as a result of negative effects their balance can be disrupted. It is for this purpose that the medicine is prescribed. Active bacteria coming from the drug do not allow harmful bacteria to spread. The result is a positive effect on the digestive system.
