Mebhydrolin contained in this drug is an antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors. It significantly reduces the spasmogenic effect of histamine on the smooth muscles of the intestines and bronchi. It also affects vascular permeability . If we compare this drug with first-generation antihistamines, such as suprastin or diphenhydramine , then its sedative and hypnotic effects are much less pronounced. Diazolin also has anesthetic properties, but they are weak.
Absorption of the drug occurs very quickly, and after 15-30 minutes it begins to act. The maximum effect in patients is observed after 1-2 hours, while its duration is up to two days. It is excreted from the body through the kidneys.
Overdose:
Symptoms: confusion, drowsiness, impaired coordination of movement, depression of the function of the central nervous system (up to coma) or a stimulating effect on the central nervous system (more often in children); manifestation of anticholinergic action: dryness of the oral mucosa, dilated pupils, “flushes” of blood to the upper half of the body, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain.
Treatment: drug withdrawal, gastric lavage, activated charcoal, symptomatic therapy.

Contraindications

This drug should be prescribed with extreme caution if the patient has severe liver and kidney failure. Also, when taking the drug, you may experience dry mouth, problematic urination, and allergic reactions. Granulocytopenia and agranulocytosis occur very rarely . The risk of side effects increases significantly with an overdose.
Paradoxical reactions are possible when children take the drug: they may experience irritability, insomnia, and tremor .
Side effects:
From the gastrointestinal tract: has an irritating effect on the gastrointestinal mucosa, manifested by dyspeptic symptoms (heartburn, nausea, pain in the epigastric region, etc.).
From the nervous system: dizziness, paresthesia, tremor, increased fatigue, drowsiness, anxiety (at night), slow reaction speed.
Other: dry mouth, urinary retention, allergic reactions, extremely rarely - granulocytopenia and agranulocytosis.
Children have paradoxical reactions: increased excitability, irritability, tremors, sleep disturbance.

Children aged three to five years can take 50 mg of the drug 1-2 times a day. How long the treatment should last should be determined by a specialist in each specific case.

Children's Diazolin is used as follows: 100 ml of warm boiled water is added to the bottle containing the granules. The contents must be mixed very thoroughly, for which you need to stir for several minutes. Dosages of children's Diazolin should be as follows: 2.5 ml - children 2-3 years old; 5 ml - children 4-6 years old; 7.5 ml – children 7-10 years old. The drug should be taken two or three times after meals for 5-7 days. The suspension must be shaken before use.

Diazolin for children is used according to the following scheme: add 100 ml of drinking water to the bottle with granules, stir well for 2-3 minutes.
